About Roseleigh Media

Hi there, I’m Emma and I founded Roseleigh Media.

I’ve always been passionate about telling stories that matter and Roseleigh Media is a way to do just that. I’m a firm believer that every press office should have at least one former journalist in it, because unless you’ve worked in the press, you don’t fully understand how it works. That’s what makes me – and Roseleigh Media - unique. I bring a perspective to you and your organisation that you may not find in other PR agencies.

Why is Roseleigh Media special?

I’m a creative storyteller and having worked in fast paced newsrooms, I understand exactly what makes a story stand out, how press releases get picked up, and how to build strong relationships with journalists. I’ve worked through breaking news, managed crisis situations, and know how to move quickly when time is of the essence. My crisis communications services are built on a real understanding of how a journalist’s mind works, allowing me to prepare my clients for the worst case scenario. I also pride myself on my ability to explain complex issues in a clear, accessible way. If you’re looking for someone to tell your story in an authentic way, with the experience I’ve gained I am the person to do that. I’ll say again every press office and organisation should have at least one former journalist, just like me. Because I’ve been there, I know how it works and that’s what sets Roseleigh Media apart.

How did I end up here?

As a child, I spent time working on market stalls with my dad, soaking up the real life stories people shared. I was always a chatterbox at school, but more than that, I loved listening and hearing people's life stories.

After studying Theology and Religious Studies, I worked in various roles, from Switchboard Operator to Recruitment Consultant, before realising my true passion: journalism. In 2011, I moved to Falmouth to do a Master's in Multimedia Broadcast Journalism, where I fell in love with radio.

When I’d completed my Masters I started at local BBC radio, where I also coordinated Children in Need and saw firsthand the impact local radio can have on charity work. In 2014, I moved back to the Midlands to work at Quidem Radio, providing hourly news updates for stations like Rugby FM, Touch FM, Banbury Sound, and Oak FM. Here I honed my interviewing skills - interviewing many notable people including my Journalism hero Jon Snow, David Cameron, Terry Waite, Simon Callow, and Jasper Carrott. I also took on long form projects, in 2016, I had the privilege of travelling to Lebanon with Global Care, a charity providing schools in Syrian refugee camps. The stories I heard there left a lasting impact on me, and has always been my inspiration to work with charities and nonprofits. It’s something that stuck with me in my years of working in journalism, across both BBC local radio and in commercial radio. I’ve spent years refining my journalism skills. Whether that’s through package making, interviewing, live producing on air or providing comfort, information and entertainment throughout the pandemic and other major news stories.

From Journalism to PR.

My first experience working in a press office was at The Scout Association, where I led one of the organisation's largest campaigns - celebrating 100 years of Cub Scouting. It was an incredibly rewarding experience and I loved being a part of something making a difference to young children around the country. My PR skills grew here and I learned quickly have to manage press release writing, crisis communications, event management, public relations, and press campaigns.

Since then I’ve gained so much experience in a wide rang of press offices, managing projects and organising press campaigns,  but in 2023 I decided it was the right time to go out on my own. So Roseleigh Media was born. Through Roseleigh Media , I focus on projects that truly excite me, ensuring that you get the most creative and dedicated PR support for your brand. I'm also passionate about making a difference and have a strong commitment to working with charities and community interest companies. I want to combine my journalistic expertise with my passion for making a difference.

In July 2024 I was very privileged to deliver a TED Talk covering not only my career in journalism but the very personal topic of mental health too. In it I share my experience of being a journalist, my passion for what I do, and why Roseleigh Media is so important. “Who are you when you give up your dreams? Life beyond the newsroom.” Can be found here and I am available for further speaking engagements.
